Public International Law
Principles of international law governing borders and territory.
Service Description
International law is admittedly guilty of producing lofty and aspirational principles that don’t always translate into practice. In the course of my career as an international lawyer in the humanitarian sector I have focused on providing technical assistance to national governments in the design and implementation of projects and programmes that fulfil their obligations under international treaties and agreements. This has included conducting national and sub-national level consultations. Developing workshops adjusted to local priorities and designing administrative mechanisms that support the sustained development of institutional capacity. One of the highlights of my career so far have been working with the Somali Governments to produce their National Action Programme (NAP) under the United Nations Convention on Combating Desertification. I developed the Somali National Action Programme in consultation with over 400 national stakeholders from Somaliland, Puntland and South Central. The Somali NAP was endorsed by the Prime Minister of Somalia, and guides national programming on land-use, land administration and management.
